Recently an article posted in Parents Magazine’s “Parents News Now” site caught my attention…it was called “Squeezable Baby Food Pouches May Hurt Young Teeth”. Did anyone else happen to read this article?
The article referenced statements given by a representative at The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD)…”the constant exposure of sugar on their teeth is detrimental…And the pouch food, because of its consistency, may be particularly tough on teeth if it’s allowed to sit there for long periods. ”
I agree with AAPD…if parents allow the pouch food to sit on your baby’s teeth for a long period of time. But, don’t throw away those pouches just yet.
Remember these 3 Tips:
- Try pairing the squeezable pouches with meals.
- Give your children water to drink with their meals or squeezable pouches. Water helps to rinse food off your teeth and mouth.
- Brush your teeth 2x a day to help prevent dental decay!
Squeezable baby food pouches provide an easy and excellent way to supplement the important nutrients needed in the growth and development of our children. The consistency can be concerning to our children’s dental development especially if the squeezable food sits on the child’s teeth for a long period of time.
